On the accuracy of HF radar measurement in the Tsushima Strait

چکیده
[1] The accuracy of HF radar measurement in the Tsushima Strait is investigated. A comparison between radial velocities measured by HF radar and acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), which provides an upper bound of HF radar measurement error, shows that the root-mean-square (RMS) velocity difference obtained from the principal component analysis is 6.62 11.3 cm s . A comparison of velocities measured by two facing HF radars, which provides a lower bound of HF radar measurement error, shows that the variance error of hourly radial velocity is 5.75 13.3 cm s . The bias error of HF radar measurement is also found to be reasonably small through a comparison of tidal ellipses estimated from 1 year of HF radar data with those from 5 years of ADCP data. These results suggest that the variance error of HF radar measurement is the dominant source of the velocity difference found between ADCP and HF radar.

Adaptive Fusion of Inertial Navigation System and Tracking Radar Data
Against the range-dependent accuracy of the tracking radar measurements including range, elevation and bearing angles, a new hybrid adaptive Kalman filter is proposed to enhance the performance of the radar aided strapdown inertial navigation system (INS/Radar). This filter involves the concept of residual-based adaptive estimation and adaptive fading Kalman filter and tunes dynamically the fil...

Traditional methods of field measurement of soil moisture in addition to the difficulty, the need for manpower and money and fail to take place on a large scale to be able to show moisture. Therefore, remote sensing has become a widespread use .Landsat 8 satellite data and Sentinel-1 radar satellite from Tehran were provided. 72 soil samples were taken at the same time by satellite passing from...
متن کاملWind jets through the straits near the Japanese coast: Case of the Tsushima Strait
We have investigated the northeasterly/southwesterly wind jets blowing through the Tsushima Strait from two case studies. Using high-resolution winds derived from SAR, we have presented the detailed structure of wind in the strait. The general flow is generally close to geostrophic wind in the strait, inferring from the seal level pressure fields. Wind jets are induced by two channels and by th...
متن کاملHF radar technology in the Sea of Okhotsk
In order to monitor variations in the Soya Warm Current (SWC), three high frequency (HF) radar stations were installed around the Soya Strait in August 2003. The radar covers a range of approximately 70 km from the coast. Comparisons of the observed current velocity with drifting buoy and shipboard ADCP data showed good agreement with root-mean-square differences of 20 cm/s. It is shown that th...
متن کاملOn the accuracy of HF radar surface current measurements: Intercomparisons with shipbased sensors
High-frequency (HF) radar systems can provide periodic, two-dimensional, vector current estimates over an area approaching 1000 km •. As the use of these HF systems has gained wider acceptance, a number of attempts have been made to estimate the accuracy of such systems. However, comparisons of HF radar current estimates with in situ sensors are difficult to interpret since HF systems measure c...
